-School board will weigh in on gay marriage ban
The Broward County School Board will be the latest Broward government tovote on whether to oppose a proposed constitutional amendment that would bangay marriage. The county commission last week voted to oppose theamendment, which will appear on the November ballot. The School Board'sresolution states that passing the amendment would "usurp power andauthority traditionally reserved to local government to offerbenefits and protections for its citizens beyond those mandated by state andfederal law," and "the loss of domestic partner benefits could cause greatharm to the education or the children of Broward County, as many [SchoolBoard] employees would be forced to leave Florida and seek employmentproviding said benefit."
