Sunshine Cathedral - Ft. Lauderdale
From Reverend Durrell Watkins, Senior Pastor
I want to wish each of you a happy holiday season and a healthy and prosperous New Year. I also want to invite you to worship with us on the Fourth Sunday of Advent (Dec. 21). Our Sunday services are at 9 AM and 10:30 AM. Then, of course, Wednesday is Christmas Eve and we will be celebrating the joyous occasion in style! We are happy to be having Christmas Eve services right here at the Cathedral; so, it will feel good to be "home" for Christmas. Our Christmas Eve services are at 7:30 PM, 9:00 PM, and 10:30 PM at our Ninth Avenue location. I hope you will join us that night and invite your friends and family to come with you. This is a magical time of year and I am delighted to be spending it with you. I hope to see you Sunday and again on Christmas Eve.
Holiday Blessings,
Durrell Watkins, Senior Pastor

-FAA clears Fort Lauderdale airport for runway expansion
The Federal Aviation Administration supports extending the 5,276-foot runway to 8,000 feet to allow larger planes to use it in addition to the airport's existing northern runway. The decision comes after more than 15 years of study, debate and controversy over how to expand the airport. Broward County commissioners initially approved the proposed configuration in June 2007 to cope with growing traffic and reduce delays at one of the nation's busiest airports -- over the objections of critics who said the extended runway would cause safety issues, increased noise and environmental headaches.

-Florida leads nation in job losses
By Steve Huettel, Times Staff Writer
Florida lost more jobs in November than any other state as the pain that started in home construction continued spreading to other parts of the economy. The state's employment level fell by 58,600 workers from October, according to federal numbers released Friday. Florida's unemployment rate rose to 7.3 percent, the highest since June 1993 and well above the national rate of 6.7 percent for November.
