-Portrait of a Politician: Vengeful and Profane
Little in Gov. Rod R. Blagojevich's background prepared the people of Illinois for the man who was revealed in the criminal complaint that dropped like a bombshell here on Tuesday. Delusional, narcissistic, vengeful and profane, Mr. Blagojevich as portrayed by federal prosecutors shocked even his most ardent detractors.

-While Detroit Slept
THOMAS L. FRIEDMAN
Someone is already developing an alternative to Detroit's business model. I don't know if it will work, but I do know that it can be done - and Detroit isn't doing it. [...] And when it is, our bailout of Detroit will be remembered as the equivalent of pouring billions of dollars of taxpayer money into the mail-order-catalogue business on the eve of the birth of eBay. It will be remembered as pouring billions of dollars into the CD music business on the eve of the birth of the iPod and iTunes.

-Accountability and the Court
The Supreme Court should rule that Javaid Iqbal has the right to try to prove that John Ashcroft and other top officials denied him his constitutional rights.

We have the opportunity to restore the moral authority behind the movement. [...] Today marks the 60th anniversary of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. With a new administration and a new vision coming to the White House, we have the opportunity to move boldly to restore the moral authority behind the worldwide human rights movement. But the first steps must be taken at home.

-Immigration agents accused of stepping over the line during sex slave sting Immigration agents who busted up a sex slave ring are under investigation for allegedly abusing undocumented immigrants during the arrest, an agency spokeswoman said Tuesday. Immigrant advocates praised U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents for going after the human traffickers in the ring. But they said the agents used excessive force, profiled racially, assaulted some of those detained and pointed guns at their heads as children looked on. The agents arrested 77 immigrants during the raids who were not charged criminally in the sex ring. They were detained on immigration violations. [...] On Nov. 19, ICE raided homes in West Palm Beach, Fort Lauderdale , Homestead, Miami and elsewhere that they said were used as brothels or "stash" houses where the women were kept, according to court records.

-ADMINISTRATION: Bush's biggest regret? Mmm . . . none
Remember that long-ago news conference when President George W. Bush couldn't think of any mistakes he had made? Unbelievably, he still can't. When ABC's Charles Gibson, interviewing Bush at Camp David, asked the president what one ''do-over'' he'd like to have, this was Bush's reply:

-Turning reality, truth inside out
OUR OPINION: With exit in view, Bush, Rice push revisionist history It's to be expected that an outgoing administration, whether it is the government or a private business, will attempt to put its achievements in the most favorable light possible. This is not true of the Bush administration. As eight years of the Bush presidency comes to an end, the president and Secretary of State Condoleezza Rice are going beyond sprinkling pixie dust on the administration's failed policies. Some of their remarks have been wholly disconnected with either reality or truth.
