New chapter reaches out to large GLBT community in Broward Co. Parents and Friends of Lesbians and Gays, PFLAG, has announced a new Fort Lauderdale chapter of the organization. This new chapter replaces the previous chapter." The new chapter will meet at the Sunshine Cathedral/MCC complex, 1480 S W 9th Ave. in Fort Lauderdale on the first floor of the meeting room building adjacent to the church. Meetings will be held monthly on the second Thursday of each month starting Jan. 15 from 7 to 9:00 p.m. and is open to all GLBT individuals along with their family, friends and allies. -Poll: Gov. Charlie Crist still has fans; U.S. Senate race a toss-up
BY MARY ELLEN KLAS
Florida's economy may be in the tank and its state budget in tatters but Florida Gov. Charlie Crist is still as popular as ever and the U.S. Senate race is a scramble among the barely-knowns, according to a new poll released Wednesday. Crist's approval rating is as high as President Barack Obama's, the Quinnipiac University poll of 1,370 voters found. The poll was conducted Jan. 14-19, just after the Florida Legislature completed its special budget-cutting session and stripped another $1.2 billion from the state budget to close the deficit.
