ArtsUnited will feature the paintings of local artist James Goodson in soloexhibit at the Stonewall Library and Archives from August 4 through 29,2008.
The library is located at 1717 North Andrews Avenue in Fort Lauderdale, FL.The exhibit opens with a reception to meet the artist from 6:30 to 8:00 PMon Monday, August 4th. Admission to the exhibit and reception are free andopen to the public. As a teen, James Goodson began studying dance, dramaand play writing at Baylor University. Work in fashion design and retail andwholesale display followed. Later James studied computer applications anddigital photography. He recently retired from NSU where he worked in MediaServices. In addition to his photography and paintings, James has publishedtwo books - a collection of poetry and a teen/tween novella. His art hasbeen featured in a number of venues throughout Broward County.

-Investigators: Millions of Medicare dollars at risk due to poor oversightof medical suppliers
The government is putting millions of Medicare dollars at risk byauthorizing fictitious sellers of wheelchairs, prosthetics and other medicalsupplies to submit reimbursement claims with only limited review,congressional investigators say. The study by the Government AccountabilityOffice obtained by The Associated Press sought to follow up on oversightgaps that have plagued the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services sinceat least 2005. Roughly $1 billion of the $10 billion in annual Medicarepayments the government makes for medical equipment are later deemedimproper.

U.S. District Judge Robert L. Hinkle said early on that he thought Florida'snew take-your-gun-to-work law was "stupid." So is his ruling partiallyupholding the law. Not that it's Judge Hinkle's fault. Even the NationalRifle Association admits that the law was sloppily written. But not everylaw that's stupid also is unconstitutional. Sometimes, stupidity stands.

-If We Drill in the U.S., We Don't Get the Oil
The oil that comes from offshore drilling will belong to the multinational firm, like Exxon-Mobil and will go to world markets, not us. One thing hasbeen driving me crazy about this drilling debate -- everyone seems to assumethat if we drill for oil in the US, that we will get the oil. And hence, wewon't be dependent on foreign oil anymore. But we won't get anything,Exxon-Mobil will.
