Florida Gov. Charlie Crist has thrown his support behind a proposedamendment to the state constitution that would ban same-sex marriage. TheRepublican governor, who is said to be on Jon McCain's shortlist for arunning mate, used a stop to promote another proposed amendment, that wouldcut property taxes by an average of 25 percent for all property owners inthe state, to voice his support for the marriage amendment.

Broward County Commissioner Ken Keechl, the first openly-gay member of the Commission, today endorsed Democratic State Senate candidate Eleanor Sobelfor the open seat in District 31. The former citycommissioner and about a dozen supporters met Saturday to talk aboutTrantalis's position on everything from development to diversifying thecity's economy. Among those issues, bringing more retail businesses to thecentral beach area. Trantalis is against building more high rise condos butsaid "there are a lack of amenities on the beach for people who don't drivethere." "I've always been against rampant overdevelopment on the beach,said Trantalis, but we need to bring more retail stores, outdoor cafes andbusinesses people can walk to." In addition, Trantalis talked aboutaggressively and proactively recruiting companies and investors into ourcommunity. "With no air pollution, improved housing prices, and beautifulweather, Fort Lauderdale is the perfect place to relocate." the candidateadded. Also a priority, reducing the city's crime rate. Authorities have cracked what is believed to be the largest federal hackingand identity theft case ever, involving the theft and sale of more than 41million credit and debit card numbers. Eleven people, including a U.S.Secret Service informant from Miami, have been charged in connection withdata breaches at nine major retailers, the Justice Department announcedTuesday. Three of those charged are U.S. citizens while the others are fromplaces such as Estonia, Ukraine, Belarus and China.
