Themeasures were placed on the ballot by the Florida Taxation and Budget ReformCommission, which meets every 20 years.

-High court saves Florida
As its name suggests, the Florida Taxation and Budget Reform Commission wassupposed to make the state fiscally stronger. Instead, it launched anassault against the Florida Constitution and public schools. On Wednesday, the Florida Supreme Court repelled that assault by killing threecommission-proposed amendments. Amendment 5 would have eliminated a largeshare of school property taxes and replaced the money with a higher salestax and ... something else. In upholding a lower court ruling, the justicessaid the amendment, which did not specify how the state would make up thosebillions or require it to happen, was misleading.

-Judging the judges in Broward County: A disturbing name game
I'm no political consultant, but I'll offer this advice to the dwindlingranks of Hispanic judges in Broward: It might be time for some seriousre-branding. It should be clear from last week's results that thewrong-sounding name in a low-turnout election can be career death, no matterhow professional or capable a judge may be.
