-Palm Beach County's living wage: $11:03 per hour
What's a "living wage" in Palm Beach County?
Try $11.03 an hour - an increase of 31 cents over last year, according to a memo today from the County Attorney's Office. Eleven bucks. What's that get you? For an hour's work: roughly 2.5 gallons of gasoline. The "living wage" is the salary the county requires its contractors to pay workers. It's the result of a 2002 campaign initiative of Commissioner Burt Aaronson. It went into place in 2003 with backing from labor unions who said workers were struggling in high-cost Palm Beach County.

-Court appointments: Crist pandering to Radical Right
Stephen Goldstein | Columnist
Charlie Crist will be the most influential governor in the history of Florida. He will make a total of four appointments to the seven-member state Supreme Court. For what could be decades, the Crist majority will weigh in on hot-button issues affecting the lives of every man, woman, and child in this state: Remember the 2000 presidential election and Terri Schiavo.

-'Rez disease' of alcohol, drugs is deadly among Seminole youth
Alcohol-involved crashes, drug overdoses, suicide claim alarming number of young Seminoles
For young members of the Seminole Tribe, this should be the best of times. With annual revenues from casinos and other businesses that have topped $1.4 billion, the tribe provides each of its 3,300 members with an income of about $120,000 a year, a free education and a guaranteed job. And many college-educated Seminoles are coming home to work in the tribe's Hollywood headquarters.

-Pay attention to Medicare drug plans, they're changing
Choosing Medicare prescription coverage for 2009 will get even harder for South Florida seniors, as monthly premiums will leap, benefits will erode and the number of choices will remain daunting. Medicare unveiled 2009 drug plans Thursday, and federal officials and patient advocates urged seniors to shop extra carefully because some of the largest and most popular plans are hiking prices by an average of about 20 percent. "It's very hard when people have to wade through all those choices. A lot of people just throw up their hands and say, 'I'll stick with what I've got.' They shouldn't do that this year," said Paul Precht, a spokesman for the advocacy group Medicare Rights Center.
